Overview

The Nexus Dashboard 3.2 release has consolidated backups into a unified backup and restore process. This is a short post in case you need some high level screenshots of the process.

If you're not familiar with Nexus Dashboard have a look at the datasheet and these videos. In short, Nexus Dashboard is a platform which runs services to help configure/manage and troubleshoot NX-OS/NDFC/ACI networks. Those services include fabric configuration (NDFC), ACI multi-site orchestration (NDO), and insights/troubleshooting(NDI).

Make sure to always go through the backup and restore guide for the full details but here are a few screenshots of the new process.

Prior to Nexus Dashboard 3.2 - Using NDFC as an example

  • Each of the ND services had its own backup and restore process. Notice we are in the Fabric Controller service page
  • In NDFC you also had an option to backup individual fabrics so that wouldn't need to restore an entire NDFC service if you just needed rollback to a previous fabric configuration

Fabric Level Backups

NDFC running on ND 3.2 still supports fabric level backups if you just want to rollback the configuration of an individual fabric and not the entire ND cluster. See backup and restore guide for details including what's supported for the other services.

  • You now trigger the back and restore from the admin page of the ND cluster, not through the NDFC (or other) service page
  • It can be a full or config-only backup and either a local download or backup/restore from a remote location
  • You can see the progress by clicking "View Details"
  • Once complete you should have access to the download button
  • History is available to see any previous backups/restores/deletions
  • You can configure a backup manually or create a schedule
  • There are a few options for remote storage and these can be used for manual or scheduled backups
  • Finally, if you need to restore from a backup, either select one that already exists or upload the backup file
