I recently upgraded a Nexus Dashboard cluster in my lab to the new 3.2 release. This is a short post in case you need some high level screenshots of the process.
Always take a backup!
Always take a backup of the cluster or services prior to an upgrade. See the Nexus Dashboard backup and restore guide for details and the Backing up Nexus Dashboard post for some high level screenshots.
Upgrading my lab from ND 3.1 to ND 3.2¶
Make sure you read through the Nexus Dashboard install and upgrade guides for the full upgrade process/guidelines/caveats and particularly the supported upgrade paths, for example as seen in Table 1 of the ND 3.2 upgrade guide.
In this case I'm upgrading my ND lab cluster running NDFC from 3.1 to 3.2. When upgrading from ND 3.0 and later, all services will be automatically upgraded along with the platform, therefore I don't need to manually upgrade NDFC.
- First add the image (
nd-dk9.3.2.1e.iso
not the.ova
) either from a remote location or upload manually
- It's a 10GB file so I would recommend hosting it on a file server you can access from the ND cluster
- The image will start downloading to each of the nodes. You can also click "What's New" if you want to see the new platform and service features in this release
- The image and system health will be validated before the upgrade starts
- You then click the "Install" button to start to upgrade process
- There is a checklist you can watch for the progress and it can take 30 - 60 minutes so be patient
- If everything is progressing successfully you should be shown this screen and as you can see, Nexus Dashboard is running Kubernetes under the covers. The
Deploying the ND Core Infra Services
task took a lot longer than the other tasks to complete so again, be patient
- You'll then be taken back to the journey map and note the message at the top that the installation is still in progress
- You can navigate back to the software management page and view the details to see the remaining steps
- Finally, once the upgrade has completed you should see the previous version superseded by the new version
